As a forest school, we have 2 forest school leaders (level 3) and 2 forest school assistants (level 2), all the forest school practitioners are outdoor first aid trained and we use the 17 and 9 seater minibus to access Raincliffe woods.
When planning for forest school and assessing the children we use the whole development of the child (holistic development), every area of the Early Years Foundation Stage framework (EYFS) is covered in forest school. Come rain or shine we wear appropriate clothing for the weather and head off to the woods.
Using fictional characters like the Wizard and Hector the dragon, who is clumsy and steps on the fairy houses, we build a safe place where the children can explore and use their problem-solving skills to help the fictional characters out of their predicament.
They can build structures with the natural materials around them, however big or small, they can play in one of the several streams that run through the woods, climb on fallen trees and investigate all the creatures that live in the woods.
